The Provider Data Consultant will partner with end users and the business implementation staff to transform data into business pertinent information based on specified business requirements. The data analyst has the ability to understand how information flows across different business processes and systems, and how to use that information to support business objectives. Positions in this function are responsible for various activities related to the provider network databases which may include reporting and extracting data for various data sources, reports and analyses, initiating database improvement and identifying and executing on automation opportunities. Positions are also responsible for developing and maintaining standards for database integrity and quality assurance, conduct audits, and provide feedback to reduce errors and improve processes and performance. The ideal candidate will have technical and data background.

Primary Responsibilities:

Data Analysis: •

Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them

o Identify solutions to non-standard requests and problems

o Collect and interpret data from various internal and external sources; prepares and compiles the data

o Provide explanations and information back to others on difficult issues •

Lead project from intake to implementation •

Interprets requirements and translates them into data requirements (interfaces, data transformation, etc.) for complex projects •

Designs and/or develops specific databases for collections, tracking, and reporting to facilitate analysis •

Participate in process improvement and system enhancement definition and testing

o Analysts are expected to participate in weekly calls on process improvement and help map out new paths for existing processes.

o Senior analysts are expected to engage team and map out new processes and outside of box ways of doing current work. •

Collects and interprets data from various internal and external sources; prepares and compiles data, maintaining data integrity •

Demonstrates familiarity in using modeling and reporting tools and how to use them during the analysis process •

Data mapping & data transformation skills (e.g. between source and target databases; mapping screen fields to database columns) •

Assist business and systems analysts with business rule and data integration •

Identify data validation risks and solutions/strategies •

Work with stakeholders to identify gaps or opportunities in existing or planned tools. Provide recommendations and create solutions.. •

Ability to create tools such as databases, tables, reports to facilitate operations ability to meet goals and objectives. •

Able to understand the operational workflow and data sets. Understands the internal or external client needs. Creates standard reports. •

Create specific output formats based upon requirements.

Communication Skills: •

Adept at verbal presentation at the manager/director level •

Explains difficult concepts comfortably at the manager/director level •

Creates deliverable templates and prepares written materials •

Expresses independent view constructively, even when others disagree •

Communicates effectively with clients and team members •

Creates work products using standard software packages (Visio, Word, Access, Excel)

Additional Responsibilities: •

Work with minimal guidance and deviates from standard process without approval •

Review work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement •

Serves as a leader/mentor

Requirements: •

3+ years of healthcare experience •

3+ years of SQL OR MS Access and VBA required - Must be a SQL or Access Expert •

3+ years of experience performing significant data analysis and report development •

BA/BS in Business with coursework in MIS, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience •

Master level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and PowerPoint.

Assets: •

Project Management experience is desirable •

SQL Server experience a plus •

Experience with Web services, XML, .net, SOAP, Java a plus •

Experience with UHG physician contracts (PCND), provider data management (NDM), or provider database systems (OptumInsight).
