Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Non Unit Professional
Job Description / Statement of Duties:
Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) seeks an experienced artistic and intellectual leader to serve as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking academic administrator to join a premier art and design college, working closely with a distinguished faculty, staff, administration, and student body to advance the College's mission. Founded in 1873, MassArt is the only free-standing public college of art and design in the United States. The College excels in the education of professional artists, designers, and art educators and is an integral contributor to the cultural and intellectual life and creative economy of the Greater Boston region, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and beyond. Located in Boston's hub of arts and culture along the Avenue of the Arts, MassArt enrolls nearly 2,500 students and offers a comprehensive range of baccalaureate and graduate degrees in 22 disciplines, as well as continuing education and youth programs. In June 2011, the MassArt Board of Trustees appointed Dawn Barrett as the College's 11th president. Now in the second full year of her administration, President Barrett seeks a senior colleague who will aid her and the College at this time of dynamic change and opportunity in higher education. The Provost will be expected to guide the academic enterprise, nurture the continued growth of teaching and research excellence, design and build a strong academic and administrative support unit, and develop new curricular and program initiatives to position this singular institution for future success. The successful candidate for Provost and Senior Vice President will be a skilled and flexible academic leader, optimally with experience and degrees related to art and design. S/he should bring administrative acumen, excellent communication and decision-making skills, and a distinguished record of prior teaching experience and scholarly and/or creative achievement. Previous experience with all program levels represented at MassArt -- undergraduate, graduate, and continuing or professional education -- is strongly preferred. The Provost will promote constructive interaction with diverse local, national, and international communities. Commitment to the mission of a public art and design college is essential. A search committee of MassArt administrators, faculty, and students has been formed to conduct the search and make recommendations to the President, assisted by the search firm Isaacson, Miller. Nominations, applications, and inquiries should be sent in confidence to: Sheryl Ash, Vice President; Ben Tobin, Senior Associate; Isaacson, Miller, 263 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02210; Email: email@example.com. Electronic submission is strongly encouraged. Massachusetts College of Art and Design is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
