Under the direction of the Manager of Public Affairs, Baystate Medical Center (Manager), the Public Affairs Specialist, BMC (Specialist) works with local media in the placement of stories focusing on the people, programs and news of Baystate Medical Center, focusing efforts to foster and promote positive media relations. Will serve as a media relations contact, the Specialist performs a variety of duties in the area of public affairs and media relations including: writing and issuing news releases; responding to news media inquiries; and proactively seeking to place information about Baystate Medical Center programs and services in the local media. Responsible for writing news articles. Develops story ideas and interviews for print, electronic and broadcast media, identifies appropriate spokespersons for interviews and accompanies representatives of the media as they conduct news gathering at the hospital. Will work with BMC staff as directed by the Manager to seek hospital-elated stories appropriate for external audiences, including stories about: issues of public-health concern; hospital personnel; new programs and services; community outreach activity; or human interest stories. Will assist in developing, shaping and implementing the hospital’s efforts to engage in social/new media and communications activity, including but not limited to: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms, as well as recording, producing, editing and distributing web audio and video for external distribution.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations or related field. Some experience in public and/or community relations, preferably in a healthcare or not-for-profit environment Expert writing and communications skills and working knowledge of office software. Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Performs other duties as assigned.
Per diem - Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm - Flexible
