This position is located in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Global Health, Office of the Associate Director for Policy, Washington, DC.

Serve as a senior advisor for public health policy, planning and evaluation activities in an organization al unit at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, specifically the Center for Global Health, Office of the Associate Director for Policy as Lead for the External Relations Team . Act as a senior advisor to the Center for Global Health leadership team on matters relating to the strategic direction of the organization as well as on the status and impact of policies or potential policies (such as legislation or administration directives) likely to influence that direction. Provide leadership and direction for the development and maintenance of activities to advance the mission of the organization and plans, directs and coordinates national and international issues related to public health . Responsible for the development of all visible and influential statements regarding public health program policy, goals and direction (including development of new budget initiatives) and ensuring that these positions are consistent with the organization's mission and long-and short-term goals. Coordinate the development and maintenance of the organization's strategic plan, including outcome target (goals), objectives and strategies. The External Relations team identifies, develops, and maintains key strategic partnerships to support CDC and Center for Global Health-specific global health priorities. The responsibilities of the team include:

• Developing products and resources to support outreach to Washington DC-based audiences

• Identifying, developing, and supporting spokespersons for partner engagement

• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for collaboration with the CDC/Office of the Director, Center for Global Health/Office of the Director and Center for Global Health Divisions to strengthen partner relations

  • Leading congressional relations, including non-budgetary bill analysis and tracking; and, formulation of
Congressional responses, reports and materials for briefings and hearings

• Conducting environmental scanning


Applicants must have one year of specialized experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience evaluating and analyzing complex public health programs and policies to advise management on public health policies, operations, products, and services that contribute to the improvement of public health programs;

building strategic partnerships in-line with agency priorities; conducting policy analysis and/or issues management; and representing public health programs or policies before Congress and representatives of other government agencies/State and local governments/ private industry/academia/consumer organizations/the scientific community.

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
