This position assist with the ongoing technical assistance provided to community based organizations, as well as public health, health care and social service providers participating in the Best Babies Collaboratives and other components of the Healthy Births Initiative. Technical Assistance is focused is in areas related to assessment, planning, conducting, and evaluating community-based and/or public health interventions directed at improving pregnancy and birth outcomes. Includes a working knowledge of conducting needs and assets assessments, project management, research, evaluation, and statistical analysis methodology; as well as effective strategies and practices related to home visitation/case management, outreach, social support, and health education. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, teaching abilities, time management and project management skills. Requires the ability to exchange information, answer questions and offer guidance, either face-to-face, through written correspondence, or via the telephone, with individuals outside the organization on a continual basis. Requires tact and some persuasion beyond the levels of courtesy and politeness required for all jobs. Requires the ability to function independently in a community setting. All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner.
A minimum 4 yrs. work experience in public health or community based research setting or equivalent academic achievement. A Masters in Public Health, Maternal and Child Health focus, Epidemiology, Behavioral Science, Nursing, or similar field. A valid California driver's license and current, full coverage auto insurance is required.
Coursework in maternal and child health, biostatistics, data management, research methods, program evaluation, health policy, community health, epidemiology, or equivalent experience
Knowledge and direct experience with case management and home visitation. Knowledge and direct experience conducting culturally appropriate evaluations with and within multicultural settings (health, social service, community, and academia). Ability to apply quantitative and qualitative approaches to evaluation. Experience managing and evaluating projects. Ability to speak publicly and effectively to diverse groups of community members and health care professionals. Creativity and flexibility in developing approaches, problem solving and working on a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural team. Ability to work within time constraints. Skilled in collaboration & networking. Requires excellent computer skills with programs such as MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point, and statistical programs such as SPSS, Stata, and/or SAS.
