The Public Relations Coordinator provides administrative and clerical office support to the Office of Communications and Media Relations, the Director of Communications and Media Relations and the Senior Editor. Responsibilities for this position includes but are not limited to handling the PR monitoring system, assisting with research, gathering and preparing media for assembly and reports. This position will provide assistance with publication mailings, compose and circulate listings to the local media, manage the department photo and press release database, maintain web page content, assist and coordinate media releases and activity for special events. Other duties entail the supervision of student employees, assist with writing projects, event planning, and production to include video and photography as needed and perform all other duties as assigned.
This position may require some evening and weekend work hours.
Required: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; a minimum of two years related experience preferably in a public relations office. Excellent interpersonal skills to work at all organizational levels both internally and externally. Possess tact, diplomacy and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Demonstrate superior communication, organization, research, critical thinking and analytical skills; ability to keep abreast of current events. Must be able to prioritize, adapt to changes, work accurately and quickly on multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Be familiar with basic public relations theory and dealing with media inquiries. Possess the skills to train and supervise student employees, be knowledgeable of best administrative practices and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to operate standard office equipment; have knowledge the in the following areas: proofreading marks and techniques, Associated Press Style, Photoshop, Vocus, digital photography, video, and video editing programs and use of social media including Twitter and Facebook and the ability to use an iPad2.
