This position will answer 9-1-1 emergency calls for police, fire, or medical emergencies; obtain accurate, essential information to process each call according to established protocols using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter all relevant information for dispatch. Please register for the emergency communication test with NTN by the closing date, February 24, 2013. The latest testing date with NTN will be March 1, 2013.

Examples of Duties:

Performs customer service functions by answering telephones, 911 calls and assisting emergency and non-emergency calls.

Handles dispatching by contacting police officers and others on radio console and type data into computer aided dispatch system at same time as call is being dispatched.

Assists officers by looking up information in computer system searching for vehicle information and warrants, and monitoring radio and cameras as needed to ensure officers safety while on duty.

Maintains records by entering, clearing, and verifying all warrants, missing persons, stolen articles, stolen vehicles, and enter property into computer systems and completing all necessary paperwork.

Performs related duties by assisting receptionist, training co-workers and maintaining various office equipment including copiers, fax machines, printers, voice recording system and monthly validations.

Typical Qualifications:

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Two years customer service experience.

Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) within 6 months of hire; renew every 2 years. 35 wpm typing certification is required. Passing pre-employment screening, including thorough background investigation, polygraph and psychological examination and drug screening test.

If you are selected you will go through an interview process. All offers made are contingent upon successfully completing the following:

-Successfully passing an employment background. The background investigation will be conducted by the Avondale Police Department, which will include a polygraph examination, at the expense of the City of Avondale.

-Successfully passing a psychological examination that will be administered at the expense of the City of Avondale.

-Successfully passing a drug screening. A pre-employment drug screening performed at Banner Occupational Health Services Center located in the Phoenix metropolitan area at the expense of the City of Avondale.

-Successfully providing proof that you can type 35 Words Per Minute by providing a typing certification upon completing a City of Avondale employment application. You may attach your certification, or fax the certification to the Human Resources Department at 623-333-0220.
