The position requires either (1) vocational or technical school beyond High School/GED equivalent and at least one year of security guard or law enforcement experience, or (2) at least an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. In addition, requires a current: (1) Florida Class D security license, (2) CPR and first aid certification, and (3) Florida driver's license.
Substitution of Experience for Education Permitted (Non-faculty only)
The position maintains a safe and secure environment for College students, faculty, staff and visitors by patrolling campus to prevent crime, protecting life and property, preserving peace and assisting law enforcement officers in their investigations of offenses at the College.
Prefer applicants with: (1) Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or related fields, (2) successful completion of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS)-100, -200, -700, -800 courses (or completed within the first four months of employment), (3) experience in conducting investigations and report writing, (4) experience with fire and intrusion alarm systems, (5) intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, (6) experience in crisis management, (7) experience in customer service.
Supplemental Job Information
The successful candidate may be scheduled to work their duty shift at any College campus/location in order to fill Public Safety Officer vacancies or to augment assigned PSOs. The College's Department of Public Safety operates twenty four hours/seven days a week, including College holiday and break periods. A PSO is considered an "essential employee position" with the College and subject to work during emergency closings of the College.
