The Public Safety Officer performs general police work in protecting and maintaining the security of this institution and enforcing laws and ordinances with full powers of arrest. Applies knowledge of criminal and traffic laws to regularly enforce violations within a limited geographical jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area for response to complaints or calls and for detection of violations in the enforcement of State laws and applicable regulations. Detects and deters crime with the ability to understand criminal activity and trends. Records the facts and prepares reports for case follow-up and court proceedings. Identifies community issues and participates in crime prevention activities.
N.C. Office of State Personnel Requires:
High School Diploma or equivalency. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve Certification within one (1) year of employment.
* A valid North Carolina Driver's License is required prior to being sworn in.
