Mercer University seeks an enthusiastic, creative, collegial, and service-oriented Public Services Librarian in an entry-level position for the Jack Tarver Library on Mercer University's Macon campus. The Public Services Librarian assists faculty, students, and staff with reference, instruction, and collection development and serves as an engaged Subject Librarian. The preference is for this candidate to assume responsibilities for the academic departments in the sciences, including biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and psychology. As a member of the Tarver Library faculty, this librarian participates in activities and serves on committees within Mercer's Division of Library Services and is a resource to the general Mercer University community.
The successful candidate will serve as a Subject Librarian for assigned academic departments. Primary duties include:
- Participating in full range of Ask Jack Reference Services, including nights and weekends
- Delivering effective instruction in an evolving program, focusing on student learning outcomes and active learning experiences complemented by tutorials and other learning technologies
- Serving as a visible and engaged Subject Librarian with academic departments, including creating and maintaining subject-specific web-based research guides; selecting materials in subject areas; engaging in collaborative management of shared electronic resources; and review of library collections
- Contributing to the University Libraries strategic agenda
Required Qualifications: An ALA accredited master's degree; demonstrated commitment to working in a team environment in the delivery of library public services, preferably in an academic setting; evidence of strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including evidence of initiative, creativity, problem solving, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; commitment for professional growth and development.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of reference or instruction experience; academic preparation or experience with science research materials and curricular trends, including biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or psychology; experience with collection development, including liaison with faculty; evidence of successful leadership skills or supervisory ability; experience with content management system, such as Plone.
This position is located at the Jack Tarver Library on the Macon campus. Some travel among the Mercer campuses will be required.
Salary and faculty rank are dependent on qualifications and experience. This 12 month, non-tenure track position carries faculty rank in the Division of Library Services.
