Having just re-launched its print and digital properties, it’s an exciting time to develop proactive publicity campaigns for one of the nation’s leading news sources, USA TODAY. Reporting to the Director Communications, the Publicist conducts independent public relation assignments for the purpose of projecting a positive image of USA TODAY. The Publicist coordinates with the media to gain maximum exposure and interest in USA TODAY. The Publicist plans, researches and develops public/media relations through new print, radio, television and web media. The position is based at the company headquarters in McLean, VA.
Conducts independent public relation assignments for the purpose of projecting a positive image of USA TODAY to stakeholders and the general public.
Attend daily editorial meetings and work closely with editorial leadership to determine public relations priorities for outreach.
Coordinates with the media to gain maximum exposure and interest in USA TODAY.
Plans, researches and develops public/media relations through new print, radio, television and web media.
Maximize social media and online tools to more effectively communicate with press and consumers.
When appropriate, act as company liaison and spokesperson with media.
Develop press materials, including press kits, press releases, fact sheets, bios, press events, and related communication.
Maintain press lists and create results reports related to specific initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field
Minimum of 3-5 year of experience
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Expertise/familiarity with social media channels.

Flexibility and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Strong business ethics
Must be able to travel as needed
