The Publicist position in our Nelson Books department will be responsible for writing media pitches/materials, researching media outlets which would be interested in Thomas Nelson’s books/authors, contacting said outlets, developing and maintaining relationships with editors and producers, delivering necessary materials in a timely fashion and ultimately, acquiring media coverage of those titles and/or exposing/presenting our authors as experts in their fields - thus, focusing on sell-through. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Identifying news/opportunities into which our authors/books may be interested and thus exposed to consumers via various media outlets and craft pitches appropriate for each outlet. To become a resource on which producers, editors, writers and reporters depend for information, sources and materials. Track media activities and clippings in Cisions PR Software; updating sales force, authors, agents and internal personnel weekly on hits and activities. Leverage social media to create awareness and buzz around a book’s release, both with major traditional media outlets and bloggers. Managing the publicity budget, outside public relations firms, and coordinating the activities of other personnel involved in each project. Work as a member of both the publicity team, as well as a member of the marketing and appropriate divisional teams with an eye towards both individual and corporate priorities.

Skills:
Desired candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, creative writing abilities, good presentation skills, project management experience and must be team-oriented with a positive attitude. Ideal candidate will also possess knowledge of the Christian publishing industry.

Experience:
Candidate will possess a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in marketing or a communications role with a preferred emphasis on public relations. Preferred experience will range between 3-5 years’ experience in publishing or entertainment-related publicity or marketing and 1-2 years national media pitching experience.

Education:
A BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field, with a possible MBA or Masters in Communications or related field.
