The Purchasing Agent is responsible for reviewing, pricing and purchasing, parts and materials as required by the Port Captains and Port Engineers and division managers with emphasis on cost, quality and compliance with all
regulatory agencies such as the US Coast Guard and ABS
Essential Job Functions:
- Quality control
- Quantity control
- Parts and material recommendations
- Forwards requisitions to ship handlers and distributers
- Coordinates timely deliveries from manufacturers to optimize vessel utilization
- Confirm compliance with regulatory agencies when necessary
- Optimize costs for parts and materials
- Research parts and material for vessels (through division managers and port captains); make sure
we are getting the right materials; find replacement parts for obsolete items
- Meet with manufacturers’ representatives; develop good relations; negotiate cost of parts and materials;
establish manufacturers reliability in reference to quality and delivery of parts and materials purchased

- 2+ years purchasing and/or logistics experience required
- Knowledge of maritime industry preferred but not required
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office Applications
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communications skills
- Ability to multi-task and work independently
Education / Licensing
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- College Degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience required
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
