Position Summary:
In this newly created position due to our business growth you will lead, direct, and manage the purchasing department and the personnel who are dedicated to the New York Mills Operation’s. Responsible for directing the purchasing of supplies, materials and equipment for the company by selecting reliable sources, controlling prices and quality, and leading the department personnel. You will interface with Product Development & Engineering, Production, Quality, and Sales/Marketing in initiatives to streamline business and production processes, improve quality and reduce operating and warranty costs.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Take a proactive role with other company employees in assessing present material fulfillment practices and work with appropriate internal and external groups to initiate and execute process improvements.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for cost reduction and negotiate purchase agreements as assigned.
  • Analyze, manage, forecast, and schedule materials for manufacturing facilities using MRP system.
  • Establish professional working relationship while managing and providing guidance to assigned suppliers. Prioritizes supplier production efforts when capacity constraints affect delivery schedules
  • Manage inventory levels within defined parameters by utilizing available tools and reports
  • Assumes leadership roles in communications and resolving supply related issues.
  • Monitors and improves current tactical purchasing activities to ensure consistency with strategic sourcing direction.
  • Researches, recommends and assists in implementing procedures that improve upon existing processes for new purchased material releases.
  • Develops strategic relationships with key suppliers that further the company’s objectives of quality improvement, cost containment and technological advancement.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for cost reduction though consolidation of suppliers and requirements, alternative sourcing, negotiation, labor reduction, warranty reduction, and value analysis.
  • Establish and monitor key metrics within the divisions that will lead to improved material control performance. Primary emphasis should be given to positive trends over time.
  • Effective management of non-current and obsolete inventory.
  • Lead the development and sharing of materials management best practices.
  • Ensure a positive approach to employee relations for all employees. Maintain effective lines of communication with employees, leads and peers. Build rapport and influence others in a positive manner.
  • Administer all policies and procedures as established fairly and consistently.
  • Lead by example; coach and mentor all assigned employees.
  • Support safety initiatives; policies and procedures to ensure plant operations are safe and consistent with company and governmental standards and help reduce accidents and injuries.

  • Job Requirements:
    Required and Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; CPM or CPIM certification is desirable. MBA degree is a plus.
  • Five- seven years of experience in purchasing and supervision is required. Preference given to manufacturing experience
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, listening and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively among all levels of an organization.
  • An understanding of and proficiency in change management and business process management. Proven ability to drive results through leadership influence.
  • Computer proficiency various software, including (ie; Microsoft, Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project). Simulation software experience is a plus.
