Description of Duties/Qualifications

Manage the purchasing department to achieve the primary goals of supplier on time delivery & quality, cost control, inventory management, supply risk management, and new product introductions through the supply chain. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for collecting and analyzing spend data and purchase price variance data for the Utica facility by commodity and supplier. The coordination with and support through ConMed's corporate sourcing team should be solicted. Other resources of information, such as manufacturing engineering and quality should be assessed and considered as well. The position will take a lead rolein managing the procurement team and with it the tactical day to day activities. In cooperation with the buyers he/she identifies strategic opportunities and areas for improvement in the supply chain and manages these projects to fruition. Projects around the subjects of cost savings, supplier performance management (OTD, Quality), supplier inventory reduction, supplier consolidation, and supply chain risk mitigation will be identified and executed. Efforts will be coordinated with the Director of Materials management and in compliance with company strategy, policies, process requirements, and procedures. Manage purchasing organization to improve and manage supplier performance. Strategic procurement and cost saving initiatives. Negotiations and purchase order management. Implement supplier management initiatives. Supervise, train and instruct assigned employees. Conduct interviews, performance appraisals, and ensure department is operating in an efficient manner. Prepare required paperwork, files, logs, lists, reports, presentations. Perform other related duties as required by management. 5-7 years in the purchasing field; 1-3 years as purchasing manager (preferred). Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration or equivalent, APICS Certification in Materials Management or Purchasing Management (preferred). Works under minimal supervision of Manager; has appreciable latitude; knowledge of a variety of production processes as well as related costs and constraints; negotiation skills and "ability to read people" preferred; Present self in a professional manner and within guidelines of ConMed policies as representative of the company in front of suppliers and others; Supply Chain Relationship Management, Supply Risk Mitigation, Contract Negotiation.
