OPCO Description

The Specialty Products business generates approximately $75m-$100m in revenue combined with significant operating profit. With two locations: Elizabethtown, NC (approximately 60 minutes from Wilmington NC) and Farmington CT (approximately 20 minutes from Hartford, CT), the business unit has more than 300 associates performing marketing, sales, product development, manufacturing, engineering, supply chain management, human resources, finance and customer service activities. The business is comprised of a variety of product lines under industry recognized brand names including Veeder Root, Eagle Signal, Namco, Dolan Jenner, Joslyn Clark, Superior Electric, Thomson, Hecon and Partlow. The markets served include electronic timers and counters, mechanical timers and counters, voltage control components, variable transformers, thermoplastic bearings, safety light curtains, proximity sensors, fire pump controllers, limit switches and chart recorders.


We are seeking a talented Purchasing Manager to work in a fast-paced multi-site manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will play a key role within the Operations group. This position requires an innovative individual with the willingness to take calculated risks, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of associates and in cross functional teams. This is a high visibility opportunity with advancement opportunities through operations or supply chain management throughout Danaher.

Principle owner responsible for driving/implementing materials process improvements to support business goals with emphasis on supplier management, supplier improvement, deflation, inventory management, continuity of supply to support the manufacturing floor.

Responsible for leading and developing the purchasing, planning and receiving team

Implementation and execution of Kanban processes to drive inventory and OTD improvements

Drive a culture of stretch goal attainment

Drive supplier quality, delivery, cost and inventory metrics

Ensure compliance to all accounting and legal regulations

Lead supplier selection, development and strategic supplier management, ensuring that the supplier qualification process is followed

Develop and lead negotiation strategies with suppliers and establish contractual agreements

Provide cross-functional materials and sourcing expertise and leadership across manufacturing, sales, and engineering teams

Work closely with sourcing/materials personnel in Danaher to implement and receive benefits of best practices

Responsible for professional development and team building of Purchasing, Planning, and Receiving.

Drive deflation and overall cost out for direct and indirect materials

Drive supplier base to standard Danaher payment terms


Strong Leadership skills. Able to build teams and build consensus with Staff, peers and direct reports.

Lean manufacturing experience/ Value Stream mapping and kanban planning, Six Sigma trained; strong process mind set

Demonstrated ability to drive quantifiable improvements in inventory turns

Proficient in kanban process

Previous Sourcing/Contract negotiation experience

Excellent negotiation skills (including contract negotiation) with proven performance in a sourcing environment

Ability to develop and execute strategic plans

Excellent cross-functional interpersonal, facilitation, communication and leadership skills

Self-starter and highly motivated

Project management skills

Results driven and possess excellent organization, communication (written and oral), and presentation skills

Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, performing queries in ERP systems (Business Objects), along with data gathering, manipulation, and analysis expertise

  • Bachelor in Business/Engineering
  • 5 Years minimum Sourcing, Materials Management, Purchasing or Supply Chain experience in industrial manufacturing environment
APICS or CPM Certification
