Job Descriptions:
The QA Engineer will contribute to the quality of project delivery by performing project applicable SQA functions. Responsibilities include analyzing requirements, test case design, testing, maintenance of test automation and appropriate issue tracking. Contributes to improving software quality by appropriately monitoring processes and providing recommendations for improvement opportunities. Contributes to and accountable for development and maintenance activities of standard SQA methodologies.
Our software development team is responsible for creating, enhancing and supporting applications which Paylocity utilizes for our operations and our clients use to better manage their payroll, HR, time clock and enterprise application integration needs. The software development department is an established group with over 50 very talented individuals who are here for the long-term and are constantly thinking about growing and improving our processes. Our development department is responsible for the development of three products: Web Pay, our web-based payroll and HR software, Web Time, our web-based time & attendance software, and an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) software.
We have a separate QA group (ratio of 1 QA to every 2 developers), software maintenance group, core development team, automated testing, and product manager teams. All of these teams are super dedicated folks who interact with our internal clients and help determine the business requirements and design for our applications

Performance Objectives :
1. Provides estimates to contribute to project planning and support risk policies

2. Contributes and assists with establishing improvement recommendations as applicable to the project needs

3. Ensures testing/project tasks are performed against established standards

4. Understands basic software development process

5. Proposes or creates standards and methods to improve the testing process and thus help prevent issue/bug recurrence

6. Reviews, understands and ensures that requirements are testable

7. Prioritizes testing to provide an emphasis on high risk deliverables

8. Learns and understands traceability process or how to trace testing back to written requirements using all means possible (issue tracking, proper test matrix updates, etc)

9. Completes or develops training or procedural documentation whenever necessary

10. Ensures that any inadequacies in the product, the process or the standards are brought to Management’s attention with suggested improvements, so faults can be corrected

11. Ensures deviations from standards and procedures are made visible in a timely manner

12. Works to resolve complex problems

13. Works closely with development using effective cooperative support

14. Keeps Management informed of activities through status reporting or other means

15. Communicates honestly, clearly and openly

16. Participates in project related meetings and/or communication whenever necessary

17. Establishes appropriate criteria within the test environments to enable effective testing

18. Defines and documents test cases to validate requirements, purpose, inputs and expected outputs

19. Utilizes regression test beds or data for efficiencies while using proper risk analysis

20. Verifies that software meets business requirements, technical specifications and UI design documentation

21. Executes and verifies test cases and compares to expected results

22. Finds, reports, isolates, recreates and tracks resolution of issues through the issue tracking process

23. Performs other job related functions as required or requested

Required Experience:
  • Education and/or work experience equivalent to a four year college degree in Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, or Accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience with Information Technology Software Quality Assurance
  • Working knowledge of Information Technology, Payroll, and/or financial industries
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with multiple file formats including CSV and XML
  • Experience with application file interfaces
  • Effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Flexibility with hours dependent on the project needs
  • Working knowledge of Software Quality Assurance practices, testing procedures, and software development life cycles
  • Experience with BizTalk a plus
  • An understanding and experience with the body of knowledge for gaining Software Quality Assurance certification in - CSTE, CSTP, CSQA, CSQE is a plus
