ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Quality Assurance Specialist will serve as the primary liaison between technical services and software programmers. They are responsible for ensuring technical services is aware of all new program releases and enhancements, what the intended function is and how to access that function. Using quality assurance methodologies, they conduct the following: 1) develop, publish, and implement test plans, 2) write and maintain test automation, 3) develop quality assurance standards, and 4) define and track quality assurance metrics, such as defect densities and open defect counts.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Participate in the full life cycle of the product development within a scrum team
  • Create or update testing plans in compliance with development
  • Work with developers in reviewing/applying application specifications
  • Assist technical writer with understanding new releases
  • Implement/document software testing and results
  • Document basic software operation guidelines and approach
  • Ensure software being released meets microDATA’s high standards for reliable operation
  • Enforce user interface standards and common usability
  • Build, configure and maintain a PV Lab that simulates the numerous scenarios in which our software will be utilized
  • Develop automation programs to facilitate testing
  • Build .NET applications as needed for effective testing
  • Interface with the programmers to keep current with development updates
  • Document findings in formal reports to programming project manager and to the QA Manager
  • Enhance engineered documentation provided by developers based on test experience and provide initial help files
  • Ensure technical services is current in all new functions, ‘bug fixes’ and updates that come out of development
  • Provide training to internal staff to ensure everyone has the necessary degree of understanding of our software
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in computer sciences or related field
  • Industry recognized certification for software quality assurance is a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years’ of relevant experience testing software
  • Knowledge of IT and SQL preferred
  • Familiarity with Automated testing tools is a plus (i.e. Selenium)
  • Possess basic understanding of testing methodologies
  • Ability to work in fast paced Agile environment and adapt to significant amounts of change
  • General knowledge of stored procedures and SQL queries
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodology preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a small, close knit development team which offers full ownership of projects in a supportive design environment
  • Must be familiar with the Development Lifecycle
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration
  • Knowledge of a programming language (Python, Java or C#)
  • Familiarity with web traffic tools (FireBug, HttpWatch, etc), including built-in browser developer tools
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Power Point)
  • Internet browser technologies: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari
  • Knowledge of relational databases
