Job Description

This QA & Testing Director role will direct multiple teams of software testing managers and individual testers involved in a wide range of quality-control tests and analyses to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements. Ensures testing is completed within committed time and budget and is coordinated with other applications. The Director will be accountable for the operational and strategic leadership to drive the increase in the quality of delivery, increase in the flexibility of testing schedules and reduction in cost of testing. The role will be tightly aligned to the Testing Competency Center (TCC) and will be accountable for ensuring the IM TSG alignment with the TCC’s implementation of the strategic testing roadmap.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: *
  • Actively contribute to software development strategy and product roadmap specific to Information Technology and drive User Experience thought leadership *
  • Responsible for designing proactive and reactive testing and data quality strategies. *
  • Drive alignment across the technology and Informatics & Analytics organizations *
  • Define, communicate and drive decisions specific to meta-data and configuration concepts *
  • Ensures efficient and robust testing methodologies are used and comply with industry standards and best practices as well as Cigna's “The Way We Get Work Done” methodology. *
  • Closely manage a large off-shore and strategic vendor engagements *
  • Direct user research, concept testing, and usability testing and develop and document detailed user experience specifications for large and complex Data Stores. *
  • Responsible for ensuring end-to-end data completes through the entire life cycle of all Information Management initiatives and implementation *
  • Participate as a member of the extended TCC leadership team and contribute testing thought leadership to the maintenance, enhancement and implementation of the 1-5 year view of the Test Competency Center Roadmap.

Qualifications: *
  • 10+ years of progressive hands-on technical experience as well as 7 years of full life-cycle software development managerial experience, or equivalent. *
  • Ability to understand test execution status and issues in order to provide guidance to the testing activities as well as ensure that project and TSG partners have the correct context to understand status and issues. Must pay attention to details during the testing phase of large, critical deliverables. *
  • Ability to navigate highly matrixed organization effectively, as well as manage outsourced/offshore managed outcomes testing arrangements. *
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in providing cross-organizational managerial leadership for application development and Data Quality in large Data Warehouse environments. *
  • Ability to guide, mentor, and grow technologists and managers and to integrate people and teams. *
  • Comfortable working with senior management, technical leaders, and software engineers. Ability to interact with business executives in business terms. *
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and empower others *
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and techniques in both proactive and reactive Data Quality and Testing *
  • Experience with version control and defect management systems *
  • Ability to influence technical discussions and decisions *
  • Strong work ethic and sense of urgency. *
  • Experience with fast-paced start-up software development environments. *
  • Experience with hiring and staffing *
  • A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related degree preferred.
