JOB TITLE: Plant Quality Manager

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

STATUS: Exempt

JOB PURPOSE : Lead the plant efforts for assuring that products/processes meet and exceed Continental Mills, customer and regulatory requirements to include product quality attributes and food safety. This job requires hands-on involvement in the quality lab and on the production floor, as well as the ability to lead and develop Quality and plant team members. Problem solving skills are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND INFLUENCE :
  • Plan, prioritize and execute quality activities to meet or exceed Continental Mills, customer standards and expectations
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities and implement solutions in a proactive and data driven (e.g., SPC) approach within a team based environment
  • Ensure food safety, food security and regulatory compliance (HACCP, GMP, MSDS, microbial surveillance, product protection, weight control, etc.) are being executed properly to Continental Mills Quality expectations
  • Be a technical resource for Continental Mills, customers and suppliers for product quality and food safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate all plant inspections (e.g., FDA, 3rd party audits, Kosher, internal audit) and implement action plans. Communicate results to Corporate Quality
  • Investigate and implement effective solutions to customer or consumer complaints
  • Facilitate ongoing training and employee education in quality tools and proactive sanitation techniques
  • Establish and maintain budget and staffing levels to support effective plant operations
  • Develop performance skills and attributes of team members
  • Set competency expectations for quality and food safety activities
  • Partner with Manufacturing and R&D to assure seamless transition in product commercialization and new equipment design
  • Manage Continental Mills Quality programs throughout the plant to include methods development, sampling strategy, pest control, waste management, master sanitation schedule, and chemical safety practices
  • Participate as a member of the broader Continental Mills Quality team. Participate in development and implementation of Continental Mills Quality planning, initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities. Support proper alignment of Continental Mills and Plant Quality priorities
  • Member of the site planning and leadership teams

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES :
  • A leader who is involved with production in the plant to problem solve and process improvement, work practices improvement
  • Proven problem solving ability and ability to apply techniques such as 5 Why’s, SPC, Lean, 6 Sigma, FMEA, etc.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills i.e. training, coaching, facilitating, written, conflict resolution
  • Demonstrable skills to in development and implementation of written policy, procedures, and SOP development
  • Understands the balance of individual, customer and business needs
  • Empowered leader i.e. sharing of power and knowledge, good listener
  • Results oriented, while maintaining integrity

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
  • B.S. in Food Science or related technical science degree required
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience leading quality programs in food industry; experience in grain based production is preferred
  • Development and management of critical food safety systems (HACCP, Risk Assessment, Allergens, Product Protection equipment, Micro)
  • Successfully implement quality systems and tools and concepts (SPC, TQM, HACCP)
  • Experience in supervising, coaching, and training of others required
  • Experience of food manufacturing required
  • Exposure in development and management of GFSI standards is preferred
