JOB TITLE: Quality Assurance Supervisor

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for ensuring plant compliance with Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, Good Manufacturing Practices, any ordinances or laws applicable to a particular product, and Kroger Specification Standards.


1. Supervises the inspection and testing of all raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials and finished products brought into plant for contamination and compliance with established quality standards

2. Records information regarding sanitary practices by in-plant personnel, identifies potential problems, brings to the attention of appropriate personnel, and assists in determining corrective action.

3. Sets up and maintains weight control program for all products.

4. Reviews all processes for potential problems that can be prevented with timely corrective action.

5. Directs the impounding of substandard production at earliest point of failure. Determines cause of problem, works with production supervisors to correct and prevent reoccurrence. Disposes of substandard product in least costly method.

6. Directs and analyzes results of shelf life studies on all products.

7. Receives shipping report regarding problems of shipping/sanitation.

8. Works with sanitation and production supervisors to ensure compliance with all GMP's and other applicable regulations.

9. Accompanies federal, state, local, and company inspectors on inspections of plant; submits reports of findings and completes follow-up reports of corrected action.

10. Hires, trains, supervises, directs, and counsels all laboratory personnel.

11. Purchases all necessary supplies and operates department within all current budgets.

12. Follows up on complaints from store and retail customers; involves written and verbal communication with KMA's, General Office, and customers.

13. Participates in corporate audits.

14. Reviews product and raw material specifications for accuracy and communicates with corporate technology personnel when they are not accurate. Distribute copies of specifications to designated Plant Personnel.


1. Will follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.

2. Will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.

3. Will be accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.

Knowledge - Requires thorough knowledge of technical food processing, GMP and FDA regulations, Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations, any state and local laws, Kroger formulas and specifications, plus any laws or ordinances that may apply; ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations; understand data processing applications; understand basic math; ability to understand complex verbal and written instructions; possess certified pesticide applicator license; knowledge ordinarily acquired through bachelor's degree in food science, food technology or related area or certified degree (2 years) in above plus minimum of 2 years experience in quality control.

Environmental - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in bakery manufacturing environment with high degree of noise, flour dust, odors, and temperature extremes and within established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances.
