Primary responsibility for conducting quality control audits to assure adherence to company, investor, agency, and federal underwriting guidelines. Assess the soundness of previous decisions and prepare report of findings in a thorough and timely manner. To keep current on underwriting issues, internal procedures, and compliance requirements. Support co-workers who need assistance with audits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(in order of importance):
Conduct monthly audits on a sample of approved files in process to determine compliance with company, investor, agency and federal underwriting guidelines.
Computer input of information obtained in audit so that management reports on findings of audits performed may be generated. To recognize discrepancies noted during the audits, referencing trends, risk ratings and individuals who are responsible.
Compile information in one area so it may be accessed if needed (data retention, re-verifications, and trends).
Review responses received from the team underwriters regarding discrepancies found in the audit.
Contributes through specific expertise at the department, function or location level.
No business partner authority.
No supervisory responsibility.
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 5 to 7 years previous related experience, with a thorough understanding of quality control, regulations, and internal audit procedures.
Must have a practical working knowledge of all phases of mortgage banking, including extensive underwriting comprehension.
Strong skill in self-motivation, time management, organization, and attention to detail.
Ability to isolate problem areas, and initiate solutions.
Knowledge of company objectives, and know where to go to get the information required.
Extensive knowledge of mortgage underwriting for FHA, VA, and Conventional loan products, including appraisal requirements in a multi-state region.
Knowledge of company policies and procedures and underwriting guidelines as well as knowledge of AUS underwriting and documentation requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey information properly to others.
