Entry level position. Inspects production materials, prepares samples, and conducts routine and special laboratory testing to ensure conformance with ASTM and VMC standards on all materials. Performs trouble shooting for problem jobs. Maintains accurate and timely records on all technical data.
ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Samples and conducts testing on construction materials (Aggregate, HMA, RMC) conforming to the appropriate standard test methods. Field and laboratory testing of complete product line to insure Quality Control of products at the point of production, shipping and arrival upon the jobsite. Test methods include but not limited to ASTM, AASHTO and DOT. Individual must perform testing proficiently and accurately. Test results are communicated to supervisor and properly documented in data base. Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications. Visually inspects stockpiles, materials sources, and truck loads at RMC batch plants and HMA plant sites. Conduct testing and assist in plant calibrations to insure the proper quality of the product.
Education: High School graduation or its equivalent is required.
Experience: 0 to 2 years laboratory testing experience in asphalt pavement material, ready-mix concrete, and construction aggregate properties. Individual may have some prior training or experience in the materials testing field and demonstrates a proficiency to perform basic Quality Control duties and responsibilities.
License: A valid driver’s license is required.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires knowledge of and awareness of construction site hazards. Will be required to wear
protective gear when working in the field, including gear to protect against exposure to noise, dust and
hazardous materials. This requires an awareness to safeguard against possible hazards. Will be required to lift and transport sample buckets and bags of up to 30 pounds.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
