The successful candidate for this position will provide leadership and direction to cross-functional teams empowered to execute the quality manufacturing strategies for process improvements at all Barnes Associated Spring locations. As the SBU authority on advising and implementing lean/continuous improvement/Six Sigma philosophy, theory and application tools/tactics, you will be responsible for delivering breakthrough levels of improvement in process capability, production design and business processes to reduce defects and to attain world-class levels in quality and manufacturing. Core Responsibilities:
  • Enhance/maintain the comprehensive quality strategy for Barnes Associated Spring to achieve World Class Quality Excellence.
  • Work as a key member of the Operations staff to develop quality goals and objectives across all Divisions.
  • Provide leadership to division Quality Managers in a matrix organization to surpass quality goals and improve delivery and profitability performance.
  • Provide consulting services to locations for special assignment/ project roles as assigned.
  • Design/improve quality systems and infrastructure to meet customer requirements.
  • Diagnose system and process capability of current operations and leverage current quality practices (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma) as key tools to improve delivery and profitability performance.
  • Ensure the divisions and vendor’s quality system consistently meets or exceeds customer regulatory requirements, TS-16949, AS-9100, special processes and other automotive customer specific requirements.
  • Assure product compliance through application of state-of-the art quality techniques.
  • Conduct and champion quality training and internal audits.
  • Provide leadership to divisions in root cause analysis, corrective, and preventive actions (RCACAPA); train and mentor other associates and suppliers to perform effective problems solving using standard tools (8D, 3P and 5Why, etc.).
  • Establish/maintain and manage process improvement metrics for the SBU and at the Divisional level.
  • Manage development and performance of eight (8) Quality Manager direct reports.
  • Work with Engineering to embed Quality requirements / process optimization in the tollgates of New Product Introduction process to minimize scrap & rework in production phase.
  • Manages by way of Leadership Effectiveness (EI). Recognizes his/her emotions and that of his/her team and develops actions to motivate, inspire and direct in a more effective manner.

Required Skills Qualifications:
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple assignments.
  • Prior experience in an ISO/QS certified environment would be a plus.
  • Proven track record of developing effective working relationships which foster integrity, trust and respect.
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills and the ability to contribute to strategic decisions, while driving detailed implementation plans.
  • Experience evaluating current processes and developing sound recommendations for improvement.
  • Impeccable integrity; Superior interpersonal skills; able to communicate and engage personnel at all levels of the organization. Emotionally intelligent change agent who challenges the status quo and acts with a sense of urgency to drive results.
  • Available to travel 30% domestically and internationally
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical/operating discipline, which could include quality, engineering or similar.
  • MS/MBA in related discipline preferred.
  • ASQ and/or Six Sigma or related certification a plus
Required Experience
  • Ten (10) years or more of quality and/or operations/manufacturing experience demonstrating a self-starter, hands-on approach.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical/operating discipline, which could include quality, engineering or similar.
  • MS/MBA in related discipline preferred.
  • ASQ and/or Six Sigma or related certification a plus
