ITW Deltar Body & Interior Business, located in Frankfort, IL (outside of Chicago) is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer with experience in the field of plastic injection molding for the automotive industry.
The ideal candidate will possess quality engineering skills in the automotive industry (experience with Toyota a plus) and coupled with high energy and self-motivation, have the experience to lead, mentor and motivate a team of Quality Inspectors. In addition, the Quality Engineer will plan, coordinate and direct quality control program on the manufacturing floor designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established customer requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervisory duties for workers engaged in inspection activities
Working closely with manufacturing to ensure communication and implementation of quality requirements and systems
Maintain internal quality control requirements (boundary sample boards, hourly check sheets, work instructions, operator visuals, lot control, defect accumulation sheets, etc.)
Ensure continuous control over materials and products
Troubleshooting / problem solving of quality related issues and reviewing with appropriate functions / management as needed
Reviews control of nonconformance material disposition and inspection of reworked product
Review quality problems with engineering when needed to produce a better product
Focus on continuous improvement activities
Directs and coordinates quality inspection of parts, components, and material produced by subcontractors and vendors to ensure conformance to standards and customer requirements.
Participate in surveillance of subcontractors’ manufacturing processes and control subcontractor performance system.
Manage customer complaints for root cause, countermeasure and closure. Serve as liaison between customer and ITW
Coordinating external sorting activities, tracking, and reporting as needed
Regularly monitoring customer quality websites
Monitor, track and post customer PPM
Participate in customer meetings and visits
Coordinates accumulation of APQP documents and assists with appropriate PPAP submission.
Develop robust MQC/CP’s for Production Quality Control.
Process flows created as needed
Leads and implements TS16949 procedures and customer specific requirements.
Assist with TS16949 certification audits
Other activities as assigned/requested by managers related to achieving business goals and/or improvements.
Bachelor’s degree, 3-5 years related work experience required (automotive preferred)
Experience and working knowledge using measuring equipment/gages required
Metrology, SPC & GDT knowledge
Proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
Intellectual expertise in the areas of injection molding for the automotive industry and APQP process strongly preferred
Must be able to be a team player and work independently with little to no supervision
Must have strong analytical skills along with effective time and project management skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Good problem solving ability
