SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Senior Manager, Knowledge Offerings

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: The primary responsibilities of this role are to administer and grow domestic and global distribution, translations and rights programs; inventory and related business operations, and administer the “Publisher Volume” (other publishers’ books) of Quality Press within ASQ’s Knowledge Offerings Workgroup. The publications administrator is also responsible assisting Publisher with contract negotiations, supporting various reports and activities related to ASQ’s six quarterly journals, developing working relationships with appropriate publishers, and for increasing Quality Press awareness and improving the Quality Press image in the author and reviewer community.

SKILLS: Demonstrated work ethic and communication skills; understanding of quality principles, continuous learning, customer focus, and teamwork and partnering skills. Demonstrated capacity for embracing change and learning new technologies. Must possess excellent communication skills, prioritization skills and exhibit proficiency understanding and working with spreadsheet software and database systems. Must be detail oriented and possess an understanding of profit and loss (P&L) and the relationship to Quality Press business.

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, marketing or related field is required.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years work experience in a publications environment and business function, preferably with contract and analytical experience. Book/magazine publishing experience preferred.

1.Administers Amazon and other online publication partnerships of about $700,000 in revenue, including Search Inside the Book Program, retrieval and placement of orders, coordination with Customer Care, generation of monthly reports, monitoring of sales and maintenance.
2.Administers book wholesaler programs, with direct accountable for Baker & Taylor which totals about $100,000 annually.
3.Manages Quality Press translation program of about 100 books in 11 languages.
4.Administers the Pub Volume Book Reseller Program of about $200,000 annually by assessing book portfolio needs and then requesting review copies from publishers, evaluating products for distribution, and maintaining the publisher volume database
5.Administers standards reseller programs of about $200,000 with I H S and other distributors per signed contracts/agreements for standards. Work as liaison with ANSI and other resellers to assure accuracy in reporting and timely payment.
6.Oversees and grows product distribution management both domestically and internationally with about 40 resellers.
7.Grow and support journal content licensing, subscription sales and ensure proper use of content and copyright restrictions.
8.Explores and recommends new partnerships and product developments for books and journals, exploring digital opportunities and electronic access to knowledge assets.
9.Enhance Quality Press product awareness through effective use of e-newletters, linkage with division newsletter editors, communication to resellers, social networking, SEO, and other target campaigns.
10.Maintains effective linkage with Financial Management, Customer Care and other workgroup involving purchase orders, invoice reconciliation, and to resolve customer concerns on topical content of Quality Press products, availability dates, and pricing and (volume) discount.

1.Internal - Regular contact with Market Managers, Learning and Certification Offerings, Financial Management, D.C., and Customer Service Center.
2.External - Frequent contact with publishing partners, resellers and translators. Moderate contact with authors and customers as dictated by royalties, research, and information activities. Contact with members and non-members at trade shows as needed.

1.Planning and scheduling. Responsible for planning distribution of intellectual property assets to Amazon, Google and other online book resellers as well as book wholesellers; scheduling creation and distribution of translated products; and the identification of new pub volumes and communications to Customer Care and the Distribution Center. Responsible for exploring alternative distribution methods to lessen impact of potential write-offs. Works in conjunction with other Quality Press staff to decide on product development, and acceptance of other publishers’ materials.
2.Budgeting and forecasting. Has budget responsibility for about $900,000 annually. Works with Manager in the development of the Quality Press budget. Advises acquisitions, marketing, production, and operations in producing the Quality Press fiscal budget
3.Responsibility for establishing objectives, policies or standards. Contributes to the process of developing short and long term publishing strategies, including objectives, policies, goals, and standards.
4.Impact of decisions. Recommends new products and authors as well as decides who will translate certain titles, the advances and royalty percentages, and arranges distribution agreements.
