Key responsibilities for Patient Safety include: interfacing with managers to reinforce behavior expectations for error prevention; proactively managing the process of identifying, assessing and correcting high-risk issues, processes and practices; managing the program for real time monitoring of safety behaviors and medical record documentation related to quality and patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and standards related to patient safety with the objective of reducing events and preventing harm to patients or staff. Work focuses on interactions with staff rather than patients/families. QUALIFICATIONS: Education : Bachelors degree required in nursing or other patient care related field. Five (5) plus years proven successful experience leading accreditation and safety improvement initiatives may be substituted for degree requirement. Masters preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in patient safety, performance improvement, accreditation readiness, or risk management. Knowledge and skills: Ability to abstract and analyze clinical information from medical records; excellent facilitation, relationship skills, verbal and written communication skills. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy. Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, physicians and other healthcare providers, as well as, with multidisciplinary teams across department lines. Must possess public speaking skills. Must possess strong project management skills. Requires critical thinking, conceptual thinking and decision making skills. Must possess knowledge of health care issues and process improvement concepts. Knowledge and understand of regulatory and accreditation agency standards preferred. Must be computer literate of date analysis systems and knowledgeable in microcomputer spreadsheet software and graphics software, and web-based programs/navigation. Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth and development. a) Attends at least 18 hours of continued professional growth and development in addition to the annually required hospital competencies b) Participates in Quality Council, and various other councils as necessary c) Membership to professional organization for certifications: HFMA and NAHQ, SAHA and various other organizations as deemed appropriate.
