Salaried Non-Exempt Shift: H Shift, 5 AM to 5 PM
The purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the Production Teams and other support staff assigned. The individual is responsible for providing Production Teams with the necessary information to produce products that meet MOM food safety and quality standards at the lowest cost in a timely manner. Serve as an internal “customer advocate” to help ensure the requirements and expectations of MOM’s customers and consumers are met. Support, implement and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF. Responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.
Provide Production Team Members and Line Managers with technical resources in areas of product quality and food safety during on-going production, as well as in noncompliance situations. Attend noncompliance meetings and advise on needed start-up procedures and products holds.
Coordinate and perform audits and analyses on finished and intermediate products, ingredients, processes and systems as requested.
Record and report audit findings in areas of Pest Prevention, Sanitation, GMP’s, Pre-Op Inspection/Testing, Plant Environment, HACCP, SSOP’s, Net Weight, Finished Product Sensory. Coordinate and perform Ingredient COA Verifications.
Collect, prepare and ship routine environmental for testing.
Investigate leaks, create vector swabbing maps, collect and ship swabs.
Enter investigation and testing results in IR databases.
Perform all SQA functions.
Oversee contractor and maintenance work to assure GMP/food safety compliance.
Follow safety, sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Good Laboratory Practices when performing tests.
Calibrate and maintain production measurement equipment as requested.
Manage inventory of lab supplies.
Represent Quality Assurance in cross-functional groups as assigned.
Provide administrative support to the QA Operations group in assigned project areas.
Serve as primary backup for QA technicians for vacations, absences, etc.
Assist QA Manager with N/C product sampling, inspection and dispositions.
Assist QA Managers and QA Engineers with continuous improvement and quality system development projects.
Perform other duties as assign by QA Manager.
Education: 4 years college degree required, emphasis preferred in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or food science.
Experience: 5 years production experience required, food production desired. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, GMP's, food safety, GLP’s, statistics and lab techniques preferred.
Skills: This individual must possess strong leadership skills, excellent organizational and problem solving skills, the ability to work with a PC and have demonstrated math/statistical computation skills. Knowledge of SPC; the ability to work safely with chemicals, as well as, in and around equipment; the ability to compile, analyze and present collected data in summary form as well as being capable of performing a variety of tests. Must be able to communicate technical, scientific, and regulatory information, both written and verbally. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to make presentations, facilitate meetings, probe for root cause, and provide training.
Internal: Work under the direction provided by QA Manager. Work closely with Line Managers and Production Team Members. Support activities of the Product Teams, QA Operations/Food Safety Manager, QA Engineers, and QA Document Control Admin Assistant. Projects include routine day-to-day production support activities. Other projects may include collaboration with staff to evaluate quality program effectiveness, develop QA systems, and implement improvement changes. Frequent contact with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Product Development, and Purchasing. Work with other QA Technicians in coordinating the equitable performance of required tasks and job duties. Priorities determined by QA Manager and Production Team needs.
External: Contact with outside vendors/suppliers to evaluate products, ingredients, and equipment as needed for special projects and normal operations. Contact with customer/regulatory auditors and representatives during plant visits. Provide audit support for supplier programs.
Identification of unusual occurrences or trends relating to production processes.
Will take initiative to communicate process/product trends to Product Teams for further studies or evaluation.
Work collaboratively with Production Teams and staff to identify root causes and corrective action in the continuous improvement process.
Application of scientific methodology and quality tools in gathering information, compiling and presenting it in a summary and usable format.
Job elements and considerations are safety, cost, feasibility, time, labor, etc.
Maintain an extensive knowledge of all plant systems and possess a technical vocabulary.
Work Structure: Works under the general direction of QA Manager, but may take work direction from the QA Scientist and Corporate Food Safety Mangers. Projects are assigned by QA Manager but may also be self-initiated. This position will require off-shift and weekend work.
Completing audits and analyses as required to support the needs of the Production Teams improvement efforts.
Provide appropriate training on GMPs and quality systems to Production Teams.
Work with cross functional group to evaluate and monitor program assignments.
Provide summary feedback to QA Manager, Production Teams on key measurements related to program assignments.
Organizing and evaluating the test methodology in data collection to analysis of products, processes, efficiencies, policies, procedures, ingredients, etc.
The accurate gathering, compiling, analysis and summary of information by which improvement decisions are based.
Provide technical support in the fact-finding process related to non-compliance, HACCP violations, and incoming ingredient incidents.
Implementation of solutions resulting from the accurate and timely gathering/assembling of data for continuous improvements of high quality products/processes.
Providing input for decisions regarding product quality, safety and efficiency issues.
Drive for a harmonious and constructive working atmosphere by demonstrating (through words and actions) a positive, cooperative and supportive attitude toward team members and company policies.
Decision made by this individual may significantly impact manufacturing cost, production efficiencies, and customer satisfaction.
