Working under general supervision, the R&D Industrial Design Intern actively participates in the new product creation process from concept to finished product in collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers. The intern uses AutoCAD Alias, Inventor, Mechanical, and Solid Works to develop 3D prototypes. The intern role helps the associate develop experience in surface modeling, metal die castings, machined parts and PCB packaging together building knowledge of plastics molding tooling and processes to ensure that the products being designed are able to be manufactured efficiently. The candidate must be able to present previous examples of work to demonstrate proficiency levels using 3D Modeling tools. The location of the internship is at the GameStop R&D facility in Grapevine Texas (NW of Dallas). (The duration of the Internship is 6 months with the possibility of a permanent position for a highly successful intern. He or she will interact frequently with a supervisor, perhaps daily, to receive guidance and direction.)


Use CAD CAM tools (AutoCAD Alias, Inventor, Mechanical and Solid works) working in collaboration with internal and external designers and engineers to create design solutions for products.

Communicate effectively with internal and external resources during the prototype and production phases to ensure products will be created in the desired manner.

Create and review prototypes in collaboration with internal teams using best practices

Maintain departmental CAD standards

Work within project deadlines and communicate potential roadblocks that limit successful outcomes.

Collaborate in the construction of product prototypes that involve both electrical and mechanical elements,

Present to management team project progress, share project data using tools such as PowerPoint.

Communicate all issues to management that could result in process delays, safety issues, or otherwise cause a loss to the company or its associates.

Manage relationships in ways acceptable to others and to the organization.

Model the high level of customer service expected of all GameStop associates including responding to voice mails and emails within organizationally defined timeframes, completing projects as committed, responding to others’ feedback appropriately, and making optimal use of organizationally limited resources by offering assistance to other functional teams when appropriate.,

Support other departments/zones within GameStop to achieve overall business objectives.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS (Education and/or Experience)

Participating or recently completed at bachelors level in industrial Design

Four years experience related to technology-based analysis, manufacturing or product development

Background in electro-mechanical product development preferred

Must be at least 18 years of age and present any state required proof of age documents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and/or Experience)

Accredited Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Computer Science or related discipline required

Minimum 2 years experience in the design, development and production of prototypes using 3D CAD models

Basic plastics and metals machining knowledge is required


Working knowledge of plastics and plastic mold interaction

Working knowledge of material selection in plastics and metals machining and general assembly

Demonstrate capability in developing products in 3D using Autodesk inventor, Mechanical or Solidworks

Ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English (Bilingual in Spanish preferred)

Proficient knowledge of business computer systems and applications — specifically CAD CAM, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft project

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization

Possess the learning capacity to receive and apply cross-functional training; willingness to assist other functions and work groups as needed so the department achieves or exceeds its overall business objectives

Ability to comprehend and adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those related to attendance and scheduling requirements, honesty and integrity, confidentiality, safety, and conflict of interest
