Provides respiratory care and assessment to all patient ages, in all critical care areas as ordered by physicians, or respiratory protocols per the Respiratory Care Clinical Skills competency list. Participates in departmental and hospital activities supportive of maintaining the foundation to provide respiratory services to patients.
Maintains competency to provide the care and services as it applies to the department's patient/customer population and as defined in the department's Scope of Service document.
Consistently communicates changes in patient condition/workload to Senior Therapists.
Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for communication of issues/problems. Appropriately provides verbal and non verbal communication to staff and management.
Utilizes appropriate personnel and equipment while monitoring amount of supplies in work areas.
Uses prioritization and time management skills when providing patient care. Completes patient charges by end of shift and assists with charge posting and equipment processing during down time.
Helps to adjust staffing to census fluctuations and minimizes overtime.
Supports department by precepting, working with students, providing inservices, initiating and completing special projects and volunteering for department/hospital committees. Participates in patient education by instructing patients about their respiratory procedures.
Participates in developing/providing feedback regarding protocols, policies and procedures to optimize patient's outcome.
Follows policies, procedures, and protocols for setting up, implementing, and making changes for medicated aerosols, bland aerosols, medical gas, and positive pressure therapy.
Can perform all respiratory diagnostic procedures per department skills check-off. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for information received from staff meetings and all other forms of communication.
Participates in continuous performance improvement activities and supports department policies.
Fills out unusual occurrence reports as needed. Consistently sets up , implements, and changes ventilator parameters with appropriate documentation.
Evaluates settings for optimal patient comfort, applies lung protection strategies, and maintains blood gas goals.
Makes ventilator changes due to patient's condition and is able to explain rationale for the changes made. Consistently and properly assesses patients' clinical status and responds appropriately to changes in their condition.
: Associate of Science degree.
All ALS credentials will be maintained and kept current at all times.
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Program.
Registered Respiratory Therapist with National Board of Respiratory Care; Current Colorado Respiratory Therapist License or willing to obtain prior to start date. BLS upon hire; ACLS, PALS and NRP within the first year of hire.
Two or more years of experience preferred including experience in one of the following Intensive care Unit NICU.
