JOB SUMMARY: Interviews incoming patient or representatives to obtain demographic and medical insurance information. Accurately enters required information into computer system. Reviews work for overall quality and accuracy. Explains hospital regulations and policies to patients and visitors as required. Escorts and/or provides wheelchair transportation for patient and/or visitors to designated areas.
Produces, assembles, files, and delivers admission information and forms to designated locations. Process computers reports and corrects or updates information in hospital as required. Obtains signature on required documents to protect hospital's interests and comply with policies and/or regulations. Obtains and processes patient room assignments for admission. Compiles data for occupancy and census records. Investigates and verifies medical insurance coverage data utilizing electronic or computerized methods. Calculates and determines patient payment amounts and seeks payment from patient during interview process. Monitors hospital schedules and preregistrers patients scheduled for service. Communicates preregistration status to co-workers and affected departments.
Responsible for responding to emergency codes and assisting affected departments with internal communication needs. Works with all departments to promote effective communication and a safe environment. Assists patient in obtaining language interpretation services as needed and appropriate.
Demonstrates the highest level of customer service and teamwork at all times. Strives to serve the patient and meet their needs. Provides feedback to management team in a timely manner. Models BRHC standards of behavior at all times.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or some college preferred
Experience: Minimum 1-year prior Customer Service and Data Entry work experience. Prefer Hospital, medical insurance or physician office experience. Medical Terminology and familiarization with medical insurance plans preferred. Office equipment experience including telephone, computer, fax, and copier required. Typing at a corrected rate of 35 wpm or higher.
Other: Computer literate with work experience using Microsoft Office or equivalent word processing, spread sheet, and electronic mail software. Data entry skills. Ability to learn current core patient registration system. Must work independently; use good judgment and decision-making skills. Must have strong emotional stability, pleasant personality, excellent verbal communication skills and a positive attitude toward working with the public. Easily adapts to change and fast paced environment. Dependability and flexibility are required.

Occasionally: lifting 10 lbs from floor to waist and 10 lbs two hand carrying; pushing 30 lbs; pulling 30 lbs; manual dexterity (skillful coordinated movements); visual color discrimination (match or discriminate between colors); visual depth perception (determine distance relationship between objects; slight exposure to slippery surfaces; irregular/extended work hours (12 hour shift) and accident exposure.
