The department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology is seeking candidate for a Research Associate II to perform duties in a molecular biology laboratory. Responsibilities for this position will be split between lab managerial tasks and performing specific experiments.
The person filling this position will be responsible for the design and implementation of specific experiments aimed at testing short interference RNAs designed by other colleagues on a NSF funded research project. These experiments will include molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, restriction enzyme digestions, and the generation of clone libraries. Further, the incumbent will utilize DNA microarrays and qPCR to measure genome-scale gene expressions. The lab management duties will include ordering of supplies and chemicals, maintaining equipment, and some supervision of undergraduate students in laboratory functions.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, solve problems and troubleshoot experiments. Strong organizational skills, efficient time management skills and the ability to maintain accurate laboratory records are essential.
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related field and one year of related experience.
Master's or PhD degree in the Life Sciences or related fields.
Experience conducting RNA interference experiments on model species such as C. elegans, Arabidopsis, Drosophila, mouse or rat and their cell lines.
Experience conducting molecular biology techniques, such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, restriction enzyme digestions, and generation of clone libraries.
Experience in DNA microarrays and qPCR.
Lab management experience.
Minimum $33,676; commensurate with qualifications
All accrued vacation must be taken during the term of this appointment. Unused vacation will be forfeited upon resignation or termination from ISU.
