Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Research Chemist for its Carlsbad, CA facility.
We are seeking an Analytical Chemist with extensive experience in gas and liquid chromatography. Candidates also having experience in mass spectrometry, NMR, and a broad understanding of various analytical techniques relevant to silicon and inorganic compounds are preferred. It is highly beneficial that candidate’s experiences include analysis of silicon and organometallic/metal precursor purity, methods development and validation procedures and analysis of trace metals.
The role involves working closely with an integrated team of researchers in a laboratory environment to develop strong technical understanding of new products. The person will be working within an integrated team of analytical researchers responsible for the analysis and verification of purity for high value commercialized products, technology-led new product development, and customer sampling analysis and support. The role requires collaboration with internal and external technical personnel for the development of novel analytical methods and systems. Experiences in successful team environments are a significant asset.
The position requires the majority of time being hands-on laboratory work. This position is responsible for obtaining high reliability data, equipment and resource planning for analysis needs for the technology team, project planning & management. The person will need to demonstrate leadership through strong technical skills and teamwork skills, be self-motivated and ambitious in the support of high value new products of commercial relevance, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated creativity and strong problem solving skills.
- Masters degree with at least 5 years experience or a Ph.D. with 2 years experience, preferably in high purity precursor analysis related to microelectronics industry or similar experience.
- Strong technical understanding of fundamental analytical chemistry
- Theoretical and operational understanding of chromatography
- A broad breadth of analytical tools and their relevant applicability
- Strong fundamentals and practical experience in the use of statistics to develop data reliability information, limits of detection
- Experienced in new product analytical methods development
- Excellent interpersonal skills that support a diverse team environment
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
