Provides clinical oversight/support in research animal care and use with concentration on rodents and non-human primates. Responsibilities include providing diagnostic and clinical care for a variety of species, technical guidance and technique training to researchers and staff. Provide general assistance in support of biomedical research for the Boston University Laboratory Animal Science Program. Assist IACUC in ensuring that research activities are in compliance with federal, state and local regulatory policies, laws and regulations that are relevant to animal care and welfare. Provide oversight of conditioning of animals in a conventional environment for assignment in the biocontainment facility. Provide guidance and direction to all Animal Core Staff in all animal health related situations.
A veterinary degree from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine with post graduate experience in a laboratory animal program that has involved IACUC and regulatory related responsibilities, comprehensive veterinary care foranimals housed in quarantine, routine and biocontainment animal housing and ahighly refined orientation to provide professional, high quality service and training to laboratory users in an academic biomedical research environment. Extensive knowledge about rodent and non-human primate programs and diseases willfacilitate successfully meeting the expectations of this position. Must meet qualification requirements for the Biological Personal Reliability Program, including DOJ/FBI background checks, in order to handle Select Agents and workinabiocontainment environment. Must be willing to participate in a medical health surveillance and be able to wear protective Level A (full air supplied)suit.ACLAM Diplomat preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education.
