The aim is to carry out computational studies of how proteins bind small molecules and change their chemistry in situ so functional reactions have the needed thermodynamics and kinetics. The project integrates simulation of the interrelated properties of binding affinity (Kds), in situ electrochemical midpoints (Ems), and pKas for cofactors in electron transfer proteins. Other projects analyze the coupling of proton and ion binding to proteins. In addition to work analyzing specific protein binding sites, the successful candidate will help to expand the MCCE program and the attendant databases of pKas and Ems. (Funded by NSF; see Proteins. 2010, 78:2638-54) Links to our recent publications can be found at http://www.sci.ccny.cuny.edu/~gunner/Pages-lab/mrg-pubs.html
Other Duties:
Carryout independent studies of protein of interest, bringing the work to publication.
• Work to develop and support the MCCE software and associated databases.
• Mentor graduate students and undergraduates in the laboratory, taking an active leadership role. Salary: $35,000 - $42,000

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a PhD in a related area of biomolecular simulation of proteins and a minimum of two years Postdoctoral experience.
