4 Green West Acute Pulmonary Unit is a 30-bed tele-monitored unit providing specialty care to adult patients with acute or chronic respiratory disease. Primary diagnoses include: COPD, asthma, pleural effusion, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia. Our focus of treatment is aggressive medical management using patient-centered approach by a multidisciplinary team that includes 24/7 respiratory therapy , pulmonary rehab referral, case management, social work, dietary and nutritional support, and other services provided. We also care for patients with tracheostomy, CPAP, BiPAP, and continuous pulse oximetry monitoring.
ACPU is a team-oriented, highly-engaged group who work closely with pulmonologists as well as the hospitalist. The ACPU is working towards COPD certification and prides itself with the quality and caring patient experience that we provide.
The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to assure successful safe delivery of care.
The Charge Nurse is a caregiver and often takes modified patient care assignment. Th
ey practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model.
The framework for practice is steered by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing and evidence based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies.
The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. Expectations of practice include: accountability; responsibility and authority for the practice of nursing; effective teamwork; delegation; communication; respect; personal development; and development of team members.
It is expected that all RN Clinical Charge Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals. He/She
possesses (advanced) clinical expertise and utilizes this expertise to support and promote the delivery of safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care
serves as a partner in care.
Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing: Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred; National certification in area of specialty preferred
Current/active license as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia;
Must have a current CPR/BLS card from the American Heart Association on the first day of employment in position.
Experience with direct patient care preferred.
Ability to read, write and speak English language, optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and holds basic computer skills;
Strong interpersonal, collaborative skills along with customer service skills required;
Ability to function in a fast paced environment and respond to emergencies in using a decisive, composed and respectful manner; Possess excellent time management skills; practices nursing using evidence and analytical skills along with possessing strong critical thinking skills.
