Oncology Practice Nurse is responsible for routine nursing aspects of the Oncology Practice, which include clinical care, patient education, monitoring, and follow-up of patients. He/she acts as a liaison between the various areas of patient care to ensure continuity.
Description of Job: Principal Duties and Responsibilities
A. Oncology Practice Responsibilities:
1. Participates in day-to-day operations of the Oncology Practice. 2. Participates in the QA/QI projects for the practice. 3. Supports the research activities of the practice.
B. Assumes nursing care responsibilities for a defined group of patients within the practice, including but not limited to assessment, education, coordination, and documentation.
1. Functions as the primary nursing contact for care delivered within the physician practice setting. 2. Evaluates patient care in the practice and collaborates with the other disciplines to facilitate appropriate clinical decision-making and to implement change when necessary. 3. Assists providers with procedures as necessary. 4. Manages patient care across the continuum, making appropriate referrals as necessary. 5. Works collaboratively and functions as an effective member of the health care team. 6. Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety, and assures compliance with regulatory agency standards. 7. Maintains clinical practice that is evidence-based and consistent with nursing policies, procedures and standards. 8. Provides care based on age-specific needs of the patient. 9. Complies with accepted standards of professional nursing practice, as well as with all licensure/registration requirements applicable to the nursing role. 10. Fosters an environment that is sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, including but not limited to culture, ethnicity, gender, and age. 11. Maintains BLS certification.
Graduate of NLN or CCE accredited school of nursing. Licensed as a Registered Nurse Bachelor’s degree in nursing.Florida RN License.
Minimum of 2 years recent experience as an RN in oncology or appropriate specialty and Certification in Oncology Nursing, OCN, AOCN, or CPON preferred.BLS (AHA).
Responsible for Oncology Physician Office Visit care: - Initial intake of new patients - Patient phone calls - troubleshooting - Providing test results to patients via phone - Coordinating social services for patients as needed - Accompany Medical Oncologist on inpatient rounding as requested - Documenting progress notes as needed - Experienced in Oncology nursing
