This 63 bed unit cares for patients (newborn through 21 years) from all surgical services. The diverse patient population, variety of diagnoses and treatments, and high patient acuity make this an ideal place for nurses interested in a challenging, dynamic and medically intensive environment. Our 4th floor (G-4) team primarily care for Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Nephrology, Urology, and solid organ Transplant patients. Our 3rd floor (G-3) team primarily care for Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Plastic Surgery, and Otolaryngology patients. Assignments include an array of complex, cutting edge surgical procedures and treatments. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by Washington State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children’s policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, etc.., as defined by Washington State Nursing Commission’s applicable WAC. Assists in meeting Seattle Children’s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.

Requirements:
Required: RNs with at least one year of acute care hospital based post-op complex cardiac and or solid organ transplant experience working with a pediatric population is strongly desired. However, we will consider new graduate RNs for this position if following requirements are met: Active Washington State RN License or ability to obtain RN license no later then February 1, 2013 Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with strong pediatric clinical rotations with pediatric post op cardiac and or solid organ transplant clinical experience is strongly desired. Current BLS (American Heart Association Health Care Provider, American Safety and Health Institution Professional Level or American AED/CPR Association - Professional Rescuer) and ability to perform CPR. Current PALS certification will be accepted in lieu of the BLS either at time of hire or as an annual competency. Occasional overtime may be required Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Prefer new graduate nurses with current LPN, Nurse Tech or senior practicum clinical rotation experience working with post-operative surgical patients in an acute care hospital setting. Candidates with clinical rotations at Seattle Children's Hospital on the G3 and G4 post op units are preferred, but not required. Equivalent clinical experiences from other pediatric hospitals or units are also gladly accepted
