Responsibilities
Job Summary:
Conducts management functions under the supervision of the nurse manager. Plays an integral part in enhancing workflow and the day-to-day operations in areas of responsibility to include employee, patient, physician and guest satisfaction. Utilizes analytic and critical thinking skills to problem solve/address concerns.
Responsible for general management of direct patient care staff providing care to 75 to 100 patients in the community. Typical staff size for each team leader is approximately 10 to 12 employees.
DEVELOPS AND MAINTAINS STAFF RELATIONS
* Makes personal contact with each staff member on duty
* Seeks out orientees daily to determine and address clinical and professional needs
* Promotes staff successes through monthly submission of accomplishments to system publications and unit-based recognition methods
* Promotes retention of staff through personal contact, personal interest and prompt attention to staff concerns
PERFORMS PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS
* Participates in staff interviews, assesses behavioral compatibilities and makes recommendations for hiring
* Conducts disciplinary activities under the direction of the Nurse Manager
* Addresses unprofessional behavior immediately
* Provides input to the Nurse Manager with performance appraisals
MONITORS PRODUCTIVITY AND STAFFING ACTIVITIES
* Communicates directly with staff re: time management, productivity, teaching and training
* Assesses staffing issues and take appropriate measures to address patient visit productivity
* Processes schedules and schedule changes accurately
PROMOTES STAFF INVOLVEMENT IN PARTICIPATION AND DECISION MAKING
* Provides content for and conducts staff meetings related to agency-based initiatives
* Conducts, or causes to occur, monthly in-services on topics of primary concern to the patient and staff in area of responsibility
FOCUSES ON ORIENTEE DEVELOPMENT AND RETENTION
* Develops orientation plan for all new employees
* Provides direct orientation to all new clinical employees joining the agency
* Makes opportunities to conduct one-on-one education with staff on clinical, management, or personal development topics
* Provides verbal and non-verbal feedback to Nurse Manager regarding progress of orientee, making recommendations regarding date to conclude orientation
ASSURES QUALITY IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES ARE CARRIED OUT
* Uses multi-disciplinary approach to quality initiatives
* Participates in departmental quality assurance meetings and establishes agency goals and areas of focus
* Conducts education and monitoring of quality goal initiatives
* Assists with all adverse events, plans and implements all policy changes as a result
* Through staff supervisory visits to the patient home ensures staff compliance with all regulatory requirements and Joint Commission measures
* Provides training on regulatory changes and oversees all staff training to ensure compliance
EMPLOYEE AND PATIENT SATISFACTION
* Participates in employee work groups related to employee satisfaction survey
* Participates in all patient satisfaction initiatives
* Assists with plan development and implementation for patient satisfaction
* Provides training to staff regarding patient satisfaction
Qualifications
No experience required, 1-2 years nursing experience preferred.
Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing required
Texas State Board of Nursing RN license required; Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
