The RN First Assistant renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient.This is accomplished under the direct supervision of the Attending Surgeon and in accordance to the goals of the department of Surgery and Philosophy of the Division of nursing and the policy of the medical staff. The RNFA participates in a wide variety of general and specialty surgeries in our 18 OR suites as a member of the operative team.
I. Position Requirements:
The RN First Assistant is a graduate from an accredited school of nursing andlicensed in the state of Virginia. A baccalaureate degree in nursing is recommended.
The RNFA must have completed and passed an approved certification course in First Assisting. CPR certification is required.
Previous OR nursing experience is required.
