PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Tax Group Specialist has various responsibilities that include the review and analysis, along with the performance of, procedures for deposit requirements, reporting requirements, and the cash reconciliation process. The position is responsible for accounting and reconciliation functions of the tax withheld to deposits made to 42 states and the IRS. This position also supports participant reporting for distributions from qualified and non-qualified retirement plans with related filings. The Specialist assists other T. Rowe Price groups, including RPS Cash regarding cash reconciliation issues related to participant distributions. This position is expected to review the work of other team members and resolve most issues and problems the team encounters with little assistance.
Provides QP and consultative support for other team members on more difficult and “grey area” tax matters. Reviews and analyzes tax maintenance processed by other team members; contacts processor or requester as needed. Ensures request is permissible from a compliance and tax reporting requirement, the request is adequately explained, the documentation provided is consistent with the explanation provided, the instructions are from the appropriate source (PA if applicable), and that there is no ambiguity to the instructions. Responds to general inquiries to the group e-mail box. Reads between the lines and solicit unstated or clarifying additional information. Recognizes when the solution allows a “traditional” CCI approach providing problem resolution options, such as for data mining type of inquiries, from those situations where there is a discretionary decision that must be made by the client in which we cannot propose or offer solutions that would imply TRP’s approval of a given interpretation of the facts.
Provides analytical review of tax records thru suspect item reports. The group has developed approximately 40 reports where we can identify tax records that either are wrong, or have a significantly higher probability of being wrong. Must be able to distinguish which situation applies, solicit or research to obtain additional information and communicate to the appropriate PST when changes are made or proposed. As specific or new situations arise, determines and designs opportunities to create new suspect reports.
Participates in special project initiatives such as resolution to tax related distribution problems. Supports with inter and intra departmental team projects. Assists the Cash Group with cash reconciliation related to distributions. Attends meetings with RPS Operations to represent on behalf of CCG.
Reviews state websites to determine quarterly and annual filing requirements. Coordinates and participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual filings. Records and deposits state taxes per schedule and reconciles on a daily and monthly basis.
Reconciles and deposits federal tax daily. Prepares quarterly and annual tax forms for filing with the IRS.
High school diploma/equivalent and 2 years related work experience, or
Associate degree and 1 year related work experience, or
Ability to meet deadlines in a timely fashion

College degree in accounting with 2 years of related work experience preferred
Multi-state information or payroll return experience preferred
