Seeking candidates to fill positions as a Seasonal Field Technician for the Range and Training Lands Assessment (RTLA) program on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
RTLA Technicians work with the RTLA Coordinator to assess the condition of maneuver training lands to support mission requirements.
Collects and organizes scientific data on training land conditions and Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) repair efforts.
Projects include vegetation mapping, maneuver trail inventory and assessment, monitoring of native plugs, hydroseed, brush removal, and noxious weeds, and assessing maneuver damage.
Assists LRAM in yearly seed collection, spring and fall plantings of native plugs, and other greenhouse duties.
Provides technical counsel on the ability of training lands to sustain training needs and suggestions on where training events may occur in order to minimize damage.
Field technicians must be able to proficiently identify native plant species, especially grasses and prairie associated species.
Prior experience with ArcGIS software and operating a handheld Trimble GPS unit in the field would be ideal.
Familiarity with noxious weeds is desired, and proficiency at off-road vehicle operation over rough terrain is a plus.
Participants are required to conduct research, assist with seed collection, greenhouse facility work, and planting native plant plugs.
This is a contract position.
The duties require fieldwork in varying weather conditions, varying work schedules and long hours, extreme temperatures, lifting up to 50 pounds, and kneeling and walking for long hours.
Must hold a valid drivers license and be able to pass a background check.
Bachelor of Arts (with experience conducting environmental monitoring)
