America’s Test Kitchen is looking for a Web Software Developer to join a dynamic team of programmers in our newly established Product Development group. Reporting to the Development Manager, this exciting position is responsible for building web-based software products for web, mobile and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record developing cutting-edge web applications on open source platforms, experience with Ruby on Rails and Javascript mandatory strong database knowledge (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLServer or MySQL) and a broad understanding of hosting, cloud computing and UNIX systems.

Has a start-up mentality and is willing to handle a number of diverse tasks
Can contribute in technical as well as non-technical decision-making
Is highly motivated to develop state-of-the-art new media products, including social media and web applications, hand-held applications, gaming products and more
RESPONSIBILITIES
Works closely with Lead Software Developer to meet product development goals
Provides day-to-day issue support for custom-developed software platform and product
Responsible for building and maintaining scalable software systems architecture
Responsible for the design, development, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of applications to satisfy requirements
Will coordinate with third-party vendors and developers as required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
B.S. or M.S. in computer science, or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years experience
A demonstrated track record in developing cutting-edge web applications on open source platforms
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously in a mature and reliable fashion.
An excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal skills that thrives in a team-based environment
Experience developing rich user applications using JavaScript libraries (e.g. jQuery, Backbone or other JS Frameworks) and AJAX techniques
Deep knowledge of the Ruby on Rails framework
Experience with automated testing and test driven development
A background in building and maintaining web applications in Ruby on Rails. Will consider experience with Java or Python for extreamly strong candiates
Strong database administrative knowledge including optimization and tuning of a modern RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLServer, MySQL).
Experience with document databases a plus.
Demonstrated understanding of hosting, cloud computing and UNIX systems administration experience
Familiar with audio/video/animation/flash files, formats and tools and their relative strengths and applications
Solid foundation in modern web front-end technology including HTML 5 and CSS 3
Strong command of web standards and best practices
Familiarity with development for mobile, tablet devices, the desktop (Objective C, Android, Java, Flex, AIR) or working with third-party developers to build applications that reach beyond the browser.
