RA I/II, Crystallography
The individual is expected to undertake crystallization of proteins as they relate to structure based drug design and fragment based drug design paradigms. He/She will be knowledgeable in both theoretical and practical aspects of crystallization (both manual and robotic nanovolume automated techniques) of small molecule-protein complexes in hanging drop and sitting drop vapor diffusion methods. Hands on experience with nanovolume, automated robotic crystallization methods is desirable. Additionally, familiarity with methods like seeding (macro, streak, micro etc), additive screening and related crystal optimization protocols will be expected. Knowledge of membrane protein crystallization in LCP is a plus. This person is expected to perform set up of crystallization trials (manual and robotic), cryo protection and harvesting of crystals.
Perform routine crystallization of multiple protein targets with compounds and fragments for SBDD and FBDD by hanging drop and sitting drop techniques. Based on skill set, set up of LCP.
Analyze images of crystallization setups and establish fine screening protocols for crystal optimization.
Perform cryo protection and harvesting of crystals into pucks for screening and data collection.
Perform biophysical analysis like Tm measurements, CPM assays etc to determine compound binding effects / protein stabilization for enhanced crystallization success.
Maintain accurate and timely records of data and experimental protocols as per company policies and guidelines.
Contribute to original research performed and authored by the Crystallography and Computational Sciences Group.
Interact productively with scientifically diverse research teams, including clear and concise presentation of data through oral presentations and written reports/communications.
Use professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
May determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
MS in life science with 0+ years of relevant experience or BS in life science with 1-2 years of relevant experience, 1-3 years industry experience
Possesses crystallization skills, with demonstrated application and creativity.
Significant experience using state-of-the-art technology to purify protein and grow protein crystals.
Possesses a modicum of professional expertise in modern laboratory and analytical methods.
