Job Summary

Works with radiation oncologist to deliver radiation therapy treatments as prescribed to cancer patients of the cancer center. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.

This is position is full time 8a-4:30p Monday-Friday

RADIATION THERAPIST Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist
  • Greets patients each day and attends to patient and family needs in addition to the radiation therapy treatments
  • Monitors accuracy of treatments per the treatment prescription
  • Monitors patients response to treatment and informs the cancer center RN and radiation oncologist of any change in patient’s condition
  • Assists patients at all times and monitors environment for patient safety
  • Monitors equipment performance and notifies lead therapist of any problems
  • Assist in daily equipment quality assurance (QA) procedures
  • Participates in department performance improvement (PI) program
  • Participates in department chart rounds and patient review
  • Assist lead therapist in building physician relations
  • Answers patient questions, provides education and assist patient in working with RN to link the patient with other support services as needed
  • Collects data to monitor patient quality indicators and patient satisfaction
  • Monitors supply utilization and informs lead therapist of needs
  • Works closely with radiation oncologist and the medical physicist in preparation and adjustment of patient treatment plans
  • Keeps abreast of new treatment techniques
  • Assist in performance of patient CT Simulations
  • Capable of performing all treatment functions including portal imaging, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).
  • Assist in patient charting and charging for procedures


Education and Experience:

1. ARRT or Registry Eligible
Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiation therapy program or equivalent.
