Under the general supervision of the Chief Therapist and Radiation Oncologists, responsible for ensuring the daily smooth running of the Radiation Oncology treatment machines. Major functions include: patient scheduling and appointments, setting up patients for therapeutic treatment using a Theratron 1000, Siemens linear accelerators/MLC systems, CT scanner, and Oldelft Simulix therapy planning system and BrainLAB/Novalis Stereotactic Radiosurgery unit; performing dose calculations and applying ionizing radiation according to M.D. prescription; performing basic nursing duties; and keeping accurate treatment charts.
Job Qualifications AART certification and California State License in Radiation Therapy. Skill in working with different types of treatment machines. Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients and their relatives, physicians, and co-workers in a high-volume, continuous public contact setting. Ability to deal with the pressures of a critical care area. Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating with others. Ability to perform effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions. Knowledge of basic physics as applicable to Radiation Therapy. Knowledge of treatment techniques to assist physicians in treatment planning. Skill in recognizing and reporting adverse patient therapy reactions. Knowledge of the use of thermo-luminescent dosimeters. Knowledge of basic nursing procedures.
