Rail Loader - Normal, ILL~~Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to prepare railcars for loading and/or unloading, driving vehicles onto or off of proper railcars, securing vehicles to railcars according to manufacturer and American Association of Railroad standards, and preparing railcars for transportation.

Essential Duties
• Close rail car doors
• Set bridge plates
• Perform Safety Deck Walk pre-load
• Drive vehicles onto or off of rail cars
• Break or secure vehicles on the rail cars
• Raise and drop blue flags prior to and at conclusion of loading.
• Raise and lower decks
• Set Buck Ramp
• Store Chocks
• Inspect vehicles for damage
• Drive vehicles onto or off of rail car
• Report damage to lead, supervisor, or manager
• Any duties as assigned
• A behavior and conduct that maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so you get along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
• Good and regular attendance
• Ability to work in a variety of situations
• Positive demeanor
• Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

General Description
Load or unload vehicles on rail cars and secure vehicles in the rail cars or ensure vehicles are parking in the proper spot.

Minimum Tools Needed
• Ratchet
• Hammer
• Seal cutter
• Breaker bar
• PPE Provided includes gloves, kneepads, bump cap
Working Conditions:
• Work is performed out doors in all weather conditions.
• Work with a team of other Rail associates
• Work in tight spaces when vehicles

• Isopropyl Alcohol
• Petroleum/gas
• Citrus-based cleaners
• Anti-freeze
• Motor Oil
• Refrigerant
• Transmission oil
• Brake fluid
• Windshield washer fluid
• Alkaline Batteries
• Various adhesives
• Various cleaning supplies

Minimum Requirements:
• Ability to write, read, and comprehend documents at a 6th grade level
• Valid driver’s license; good driving record
• Basic computer skills-beginner level skills with word processing and spreadsheet software
• Follow directions, both written and verbal
• Able to drive both standard and automatic automobiles
• Ability to adhere to strict quality standards without variance
• Ability to interact with others effectively
• Ability to communicate diplomatically
• Good visual ability
• Ability to read and understand MSDS
• Knowledge of the use of hand tools (i.e., wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets, etc.)
• Must have a good sense of balance
• Ability to work at a height approximately 15 feet above the ground
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds over head
• Ability to push, pull, or carry up to 85 pounds
• Ability to pass Safe Driving, Rail and Buck Ramp quiz with 80%or better
• Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
