Under the general supervision and direction of the Deputy County Assessor or designee, performing a variety of semi-skilled technical work for the purpose of constructing or upgrading a property file as well as utilizing some independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare field data input sheets.
Plan daily data collection route.
Assemble data collection tools consisting of, but not limited to a clipboard, tablet computer, pencils/writing utensils, measuring equipment, Call Back Request Cards, business cards, county identification, camera, safety equipment, and transportation.
Assist the real estate appraiser through the collection of general and specific descriptive characteristics of real property.
Effectively communicate and maintain professional demeanor when working with property owners and property tax payers.
Identify and determine property characteristics through observation and external measurements.
Physically obtain accurate measurements of the exterior of houses and related structures for preparation of a field sketch of the property.
Photograph properties based upon departmental protocols and overcome physical barriers to capture necessary views.
Respond to inquiries from the public while collecting data, answer questions, and forward to appropriate individuals as needed.
Disseminate collected data to the appropriate appraiser or support staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, the general public, and County Officials
Assist the public and answer questions; respond to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refer, when necessary, to appropriate persons.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Two (2) years’ experience* as an appraiser, data collector, realtor, broker or in real estate sales or residential construction.
*Approved education beyond required may be substituted for up to two (2) years of stated experience.
Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Drivers’ License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of “acceptable driver standards” as defined by the County.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of and ability to use desktop, tablet and laptop computers with Microsoft operating software.
Working knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
Basic knowledge of residential building construction and house design.
Basic knowledge of the modern concepts of mapping and platting along with the ability to read legal descriptions necessary for locating and identifying parcels of real property.
Effective public relation skills.
Ability to write proficiently in order to clearly convey collected information to another person.
Ability to work independently in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to completion.
Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to a tape measure/measuring equipment, personal computer, calculator, cellular phone, copy machine, multi-line telephone, computer, digital camera/manual camera, typewriter, printer, scanner, and fax machine.

Work requires some physical activity including frequent periods of standing/remaining upright and walking/moving about as well as occasional sitting/remaining stationary, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and reaching. Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, and color vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in both an office setting and in outdoor settings. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to temperature variations, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet in the office, and moderate to loud in the field.
