Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting.
Greets and registers patients.
Inputs or verifies patient demographic and insurance information.
Assists in billing procedures and collections.
Performs clerical duties.
Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff and the medical staff.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Duties, Tasks & Responsibilities:
Serves as first contact for visitors and staff; screens/refers all telephone calls; maintains complete and accurate messages.
Reviews patients account prior to appointment to ensure forms are current and scanned in to EMR; verify patient demographics at each visit; provides appropriate paperwork to new patients; Medicare patients MSP questionnaire completed accurately and at each visit.
Collect payments and/or forwards appropriately; applies discounts as applicable; refers patients to the billing office for payment arrangements as needed, writes receipts, and posts appropriately; completes day end procedures within approved time frames.
Creates claims accurately and timely; knowledgeable of coding and medical terminology; completes day end procedures within the approved time frames.
Contacts patients to confirm appointments 48 hours prior to scheduled appointments; adheres to scheduling template guidelines when scheduling new and return appointments; schedules are kept current. Documents no show, reschedule, and or cancelled appointments; creates telephone encounters as needed or directing calls to the appropriate staff for triage.
Fax in-box is kept current; all documents are linked to patients accounts daily; tests results are attached to the correct patient and order; release medical records appropriately per policy; organizes all paperwork, filing and routing as appropriate; ensures legible and complete.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience & Education
High School Graduate; Associate's Degree preferred
1 year experience in office setting or hospital setting preferred
Experience with billing and insurance preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology
Excellent computer skills
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Excellent customer service and strong communication skills
