The individual assigned to this position is responsible for assisting in the development, administration, organization of activities, classes and programs. Responsibilities include providing administrative support including planning, evaluating, and publicity of classes and programs, communicating with independent contract instructors and class participants, conducting facility/equipment orientations, monitor activities in the cardio/weight room, class rooms and fitness studio. The position is within the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department and works under the supervisory direction of the Recreation Supervisor –Athletics/Fitness.
Includes but is not limited to such essential functions as listed below:
Assist supervisor with planning, production, promotion and evaluation of programming for adults, seniors and youth.
Plan, promote, and implement class related special activities.
Assist in the development and oversight of fitness and wellness activities, including scheduling classes and spaces, evaluating effectiveness, and revenue generation.
Assist supervisor in the preparation process of the budget.
Communicate with participants, outside agencies, city staff, and others to exchange information and respond to customer questions, requests, and concerns in person, by phone, or by letter.
Conduct fitness facility and equipment orientations.
Inputs and maintains data in registration system; maintains class files and materials.
Communicate with Customer Service staff about programs and class information; updates website with program information.
Train staff to lead selected exercise classes.
Maintain records and track attendance to the cardio/weight room and recreation classes.
Assist Athletics/Fitness Supervisor in communication of contracted fitness instructors.
Promote and publicize programs and activities by preparing and distributing publicity through flyers, program brochures and news releases.
Prepare necessary forms, reports and statistical information. Prepare correspondence and instructional material as required.
Attend and participate in Recreation Division staff meetings and planning sessions.
Bachelor’s Degree or combination of education and related work experience. Preferred degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Management or other areas related to Fitness, Health Wellness. Related experience in developing, conducting and supervising Fitness, Health & Wellness programs desirable. Required CPR/AED Certification from a nationally recognized association/organization within six months of hire date. If operating a vehicle while in completion of job duties, individuals must possess a valid WA Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. Position will have a set working schedule which will include weekend and evening hours.
Work schedule is Tuesday - Friday - 12 pm - 9 pm. Saturday 8 am - 5 pm. Sunday and Monday off.
